The place we know as Rockingham County was once a Plymouth Colony that originated from Massachusetts. The government was associated with Massachusetts, until the year 1769 when it became independent as a separate colony. Counties were later created and made official in the late 1700s. The county of Rockingham was aptly
named after Charles Watson-Wentworth who was the
2nd Marques of Rockingham, a Prime Minister.
